Oscar trends 2009

Here's the fashion trends I gathered after watching 2009 Oscar award:

Off-shoulder gowns are in. Kate Winslet, Freida Pinto, and Marisa Tomei are amongst many others who spotted this trend.

Nude and neutral colors such as ivory white and beige seen on the runway now rules the red carpet. Anne Hathaway, Evan Rachel Wood, Penelope Cruz and Sarah Jessica Parker all wore those colors. (Note: beige is a tough color to pull off, and it can wash you out if it doesn't compliment your skin tone.)

Statement jewelry makes the outfit too. One notable example is Amy Adams' bold necklace. The bits of greens and blues compliments the actress' hair and skin tone. Angelina Jolie's green emerald drop earrings and cocktail ring added a bit of gothic touch to her trademark black ensemble. It's refreshing to see some fun color gemstones out there instead of the usual diamond jewelry.

Best dressed: There were several, but I think it's unanimous that Natalie Portman is the best dressed of the evening. Her fresh lilac strapless dress and minimal jewelry reflect her age and fashion sense. The same goes for Anne Hathaway's tasteful slinky silver number. I’m sure many teens out there will try to copy those styles comes prom time.

Worse dressed: Jessica Biel’s dress is just confusing to look at. Beyonce’s fishtail dress made her voluptuous figure seems lumpy. Miley Cyrus’ dress might look good on a hanger, but it does not suit her age.
